Spanish & Gastronomy

We offer our students a unique educational experience, beyond conventional lessons. Our experience allows us to offer a wide range of activities which are not only suited to the needs of each school and different budgets, but they also offer a perfect marriage between traditional food and new trends.

A qualified group of technicians will be responsible for offering a personalized guide service daily. Our representatives will share with students his vast gastronomic knowledge additionally to the culture and history of the visited places.

 
We offer the opportunity of completing the program with Spanish lessons, choosing between different levels, or even specific Spanish lessons for the world of gastronomy.

The Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española wants to see this international recognition to enhance educational programs between culture, cuisine and language.
A large number of international culinary experts and publications agree in their identification of Spain as "The first gastronomic destination in the world."
 
Accommodation

 Students are accommodated in hotels in the heart of the city, close to all public transports.

The rooms, accordingly to the category of hotels with which we work, are equipped with every comfort.

 Distributionof the Program

 Students will keep a strict schedule, making cultural visits related to the world of gastronomy by transport provided by the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española and will be allways accompanied by an instructor who will show Castilianculture in the most picturesque and characteristic places of our community andwill attend evening lessons on Spanish (optional depending on the program).

Spanish Lessons: Language in the center ofthe city.

Our classrooms, schools are located in the downtown, easilyaccessible and equipped with the most advanced educational and technologicalmeans in the field of language teaching.

After an exam, which will test the student'slanguage level, they will be assigned to one of the three different levels. Optionallessons can be received on technical language commonly used in the developmentof the different professional activities.

At the end of the course,a certificate onthe language level, endorsed by the Universities of Castilla y León, along with our diploma by the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española will be handled.

What isthe Intenational Cooking Schools Tapas International Competition?

Valladolid's Town hall, a city innorthwestern Spain (one hour from Madrid by train), annually holds a uniquenationwide tapas context. This year 2009 will be the fifth editionof this competition, involving more than 60 chefs from all over Spain.

Given the international interest led bythis event, the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española, an educational and culturalnon-profitable foundation, , organized the first International Tapas Contestfor students from different countries, representing their respective schools ofcuisine . Seven students have the opportunity toparticipate and represent their countries and their schools.

This new competition is open to all students atcooking schools around the world who demonstrate their talents individually. Students will be selected after havingpreviously sent their requests. The jury, comprised by national andinternational experts and professionals in this field, will asses the work ofseven students.

Throughout this competition, students andteachers will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensiveeducational program that will help them to discover and develop their culinarytalents.

What is the Cooking Schools Tapas International Competition?

Valladolid's Town hall, a city in northwestern Spain (one hour from Madrid by train), annually holds a unique nationwide tapas context. This year 2009 will be the fifth edition of this competition, involving more than 60 chefs from all over Spain.

This new competition is open to all students at cooking schools around the world who demonstrate their talents individually. Students will be selected after having previously sent their requests. The jury, comprised by national and international experts and professionals in this field, will asses the work of seven students.

Throughout this competition, students and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive educational program that will help them to discover and develop their culinary talents.

Who can apply in the cooking contest?

Here are the requirements to apply:

  • Each school will only be represented by two students.
  • The student must be enrolled in a cooking class in a school which has received this information.
  • The student must have passed at least one lesson in the culinary arts program.
  • Students must be over 19 years and speak English fluently.

What is the application process to participate in the competition?

 Here are the steps:

  • All requests must be approved by a teacher of teh Cooking school kitchen.
  • The school must decide who will represent the student and may only submit two applications.
  • Applications must be submitted before August the 1st, following the instructions in the application form attached.
  • A professional team of the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española will select one student from each country.
  • Students will learn and practice the recipes for the final phase. Then again, you will want to be prepared if you get to the final.
  • Students must wait to be notified if they are selected to participate in the final competition. Students will receive an email informing them if their application has been selected to participate in the contest.The deadline is September the 1st.
  • The selected student will participate in the final competition. The Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española will grant him a scholarship covering all travel costs, airline tickets and full board for the student and the supervising teacher. The final competition will take place in between Novermber the 8th and ovember 13th, 2009. During these five days, the student and the teacher will follow an intensive culinary program enjoying at the same time the Fith National Tapas Contest.
  • The jury is comprised of a group of national and international experts, who will assess the detailed areas in the application form.
  • The student selected to participate in the final will receive information on the final prize.

What do I need to include in the application of the competition?

All application forms must be received by August the 1st. Applications must be sent via e-mail to the following address: amoreton@fundacionlengua.es

  • Application Form: Complete ALL sections of the application. Download (68Kb)
  • School Letter: This document must be signed by the headmaster, dean or president of the school.This document should include the date. Download (64Kb)
  • Recommendation Letter from a teacher: The recommnedation letter of must be signed and dated.Download (76Kb)
  • Essay describing your career goals. Write an essay describing your recipe and formal goals for your career (minimum 250 words). Download (60Kb)
  • Photo of the "Tapa": Participants will send only one photo in a jpg document with a minimum size of 640x480 pixels.
  • Recipe: The recipe must be submitted in English and the participant's mother tongue. It will be divided into two parts:

 

Ingredients: Itemizing all the ingredients and amounts used to develop the cap. 
Recipe: indicate the steps to follow to cook the tapa.

By joining the competition, contenders agree to abide by contest rules and decisions of the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española and jury, which are final. By joining the competition, the winners consent to use their names and their school, address (only the name of the city), comments, voices and images for publicity purposes by the Fundación para la Difusión de la Lengua y Cultura Española, thus obtaining no compensation at all.

Poder imaginar a los monjes elaborando caldos, mientras se visita una bodega en una abadía del S XII, o aprender a diferenciar las diferentes variedades autóctonas de uva, mientras se almuerza en una bodega subterránea del S XV, son parte de las experiencias únicas que ofrecemos.

Durante siglos, Castilla y León fue el mayor productor de cereales de toda Europa. Esta relevancia histórica ha dejado un amplio legado de recetas, tradiciones e influencias culturales únicas que se extienden a lo largo de nuestra geografía. En lo referente a la repostería, en muchos casos han sido las órdenes religiosas las que se han encargado de guardar todos esos tesoros de nuestra gastronomía.

Estos cursos especializados para alumnos de repostería y panadería darán a entender mejor la importancia del pan y los cereales en nuestra cultura, palpable en muchas de nuestras recetas, dichos populares e incluso obras arquitectónicas.

A través de una variada oferta de visitas técnicas y demostraciones prácticas en obradores conseguimos ofrecer "una experiencia inolvidable para profesionales y amantes del pan y la pastelería".
