Today marks the International Day of the mother tongue
In 1999 UNESCO proclaimed February 21st day of the mother tongue in order to recognize and practice the native languages, especially those of minorities and indigenous groups.
This topic has been studied by many experts who believe that bilingual and multilingual education is fundamental and positive for both social relations and professionals. They also believe that if a person does not practice these languages, they will slowly disapear.
Since man started talking about 30,000 languages have disappeared and today, 3,000 are endangered. It is considered that a language is endangered when it is spoken by less than 100,000 people.
