Twenty students from Castile and Leon with the best academic records, take part in the second edition of the International Village Program in Seattle
Twenty students of Castile and Leon, aged between 14 and 16 years old and with the best academic records, took part during the past three weeks in the second edition of International Village, a summer camp which houses the University of Washington and organized by the Ministry of Education with the cooperation of the Fundacion de la Lengua Española
The students were selected out of a thousand who submitted their applications, depending on their academic record and an English test.
The initiative consists of the students stay in the facilities of an American University to practice English in a context of real communication and contact with Spanish students of the same age, from different countries. In addition, the Castile and León students also take in conversation workshops, leisure and sports activities to deepen well into American culture and traditions. The program includes touring the city and visits to the Space Needle, Frank Gehry's Rock Museum and the Pike Place Market.
The International Village project at the University of Washington was born as the result of a broader agreement signed in 2008 between the rector of the American University, Mark Emmert, and the Minister of Education, Juan José Mateos.
